We all know what IQ is, and some of us may even know what EQ is, but is anyone aware of their Fashion IQ? Your fashion IQ has nothing to do with your knowledge about the world of fashion. Actually, it is the way you perceive fashion, its intent and purpose.

We’ve always had this idea that fashion should be appealing or attractive to the masses. However, we forgot that beauty is actually in varying forms, and that it is most prevalent through expression. That like in every other piece of everyday clothes we have, haute couture also has beauty in it. Whether it is based on a mood, a vision, or a statement, the intent is no longer to impress, or simply attract, but rather to express.

The average fashion IQ is equated to an individual’s ability to use fashion to look more attractive. In order to benefit from their social circumstances, many people follow trends set by celebrities, co-workers, or school mates, and perceive it as a way to label one’s individuality.

At this level, the mental understanding of fashion is purely based on how you look rather than how you feel or think, making it rather easy to manipulate. This is largely the reason fashion is a multi-billion dollar industry; for people buy something because it is merely a trend.

Lowest Fashion IQ

The lowest fashion IQ is awarded to those who view clothing as a way to sell themselves. An instance where this is often shown is when clothes are used as sexual innuendos. Its main purpose is to manipulate the tension between naked and covered bodies, and the clothes do not really matter—hence fashion does not really matter.
